LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – The first Friday night of the Kentucky State Fair has come and gone and the reviews of the new way fans can experience the free concerts at Cardinal Stadium are coming in.
En Vogue packed the stadium for the new turf concert series. Thousands of fair-goers flooded the turf Friday night to sing and dance along.
"We like the group En Vogue because we were actually in that era, so we just want to come out and show our love," said Sheila Gazaway, a concertgoer.
This year was a little different than in the past. Fans got the chance to be even closer to the show. Fair officials decided it would be far too costly to fix the aging stands, so instead they set up 10,000 seats on the field.
"I wish the stage was kind of more elevated because all the seats are level, but hey it's free we can hear the music, see the scenes," said Shelly Towell, another concert attendee.
For the first time ever local food trucks were brought in to give folks a little taste of everything. Truck vendor Tammy Boutiette wouldn't want to be anywhere else. She owns Get it on a Bun at Booty's.
"It is awesome," said Boutiette. "I am so excited to be able to bring local food inside the Kentucky State Fair that's sold on the streets daily."
Boutiette is hoping to become a new tradition at a fair that brings people back year after year.
"Every year it's the best," said Gazaway. "I come here with my friends and then I come and bring my child and we have our family time."
The free concerts continue through August 24. For a list of shows, click here.
