LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A teacher for Jefferson County Public Schools is behind bars facing rape charges.

Scott Quisenberry, 54, is at Metro Corrections on charges of second and third degree rape involving a minor. He was arrested Saturday on a bench warrant.

The Commonwealth's Attorney said Quisenberry engaged in sexual intercourse with a teenage girl. Court documents indicate the alleged rape took place from the time the girl was 13 years old until the time she was 15.

According to court records, the allegations date from March 2009 through March 2012. During the time of the allegations, Quisenberry was a teacher at the victim's school, according to court papers. According to Eric Farris, an attorney for Bullitt County Schools, Quisenberry was employed at Bullitt Lick Middle in Shepherdsville when his conduct came into question.

The attorney said some members of the staff raised concerns about Quisenberry's interactions with a former student. Farris said a former student "spent time in his room, had previously spent time having lunch with him, was with him seated with him on field trips and things like that."

Based on those claims, the Cabinet of Children and Families was notified and an investigation was launched through the school system. Farris said Quisenberry was interviewed along with his wife, who also taught at the school and several other staff members. He said none of the allegations could be substantiated but Quisenberry was advised to discontinue contact with the victim.

A JCPS Spokesperson said Quisenberry is currently a teacher at Kerrick Elementary School. School officials confirmed he was placed on non-instructional duty on Friday at Kerrick.

At Kerrick's open house last week, a letter went home with parents whose kids had been assigned to Quisenberry's classroom this year informing them of his leave.

Quisenberry is expected in court on Monday. His bond has been set at $10,000.
