LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Two tireless volunteers will forever be remembered after a school was named in their honor.

Monday Maryhurst held a ceremony to announce the name of its school, the Mary Jo and William MacDonald Maryhurst Academy.

For nearly 40 years the MacDonald's have donated their time and money, even setting up a college scholarship for the home which helps abused and neglected girls in need. Mary Jo MacDonald served on Maryhurst's Advisory Board as a receptionist and also a "surrogate parent" to Maryhurst girls in special education programs.

Mary Jo MacDonald said it's an honor to help the young women change their lives, "Leaving behind their pain and loss , they emerge from our care like a butterfly, transformed into young women with hope and promise and dreams about the future."
