Father accused of leaving infant home alone

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A Louisville man accused of causing a suspected drunk driving crash Monday later was arrested on charges he left his infant child home alone.

According to his arrest report, Dennis Vorhies II, 31,was found to be at fault when he crossed the center line on Brownsboro Road at Herr Lane around 9:30 Monday morning and hit another vehicle head-on. Officers responding to the scene of the crash said they smelled a faint scent of alcohol on Vorhies and that he seemed confused and disoriented.

Vorhies explained that he had been up all night with a 4-month-old infant and that he had left the child home alone while getting something to eat, police said. Vorhies told officers his wife was attending school at the time.

Police went to Vorhies' home in the 2400 block of Glen Eagle Drive, had a maintenance worker let them in and found the infant alone. The child's mother was located, and she returned home.

Vorhies is charged with 1st degree wanton endangerment, abandonment of a minor and endangering the welfare of a child.
