NELSON COUNTY, KY (WAVE) - A second suspect is under arrest following an alleged assault at a field party Nelson County.

Reid Shacoi Young was arrested Tuesday morning after surrendering to the Nelson County Sheriff's Office. He is charged with 4th degree assault, a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail.

Witnesses told police a group of people showed up uninvited at a party in an open field in the Cox's Creek area of Nelson County August 10 and began shouting "Big Money Bardstown Gang" and then starting causing trouble.

Deputies stepped in and arrested Brant Sheckles, 24, who is accused of not only threatening the arresting deputy, but of stating that he was involved in the May 25 murder of Bardstown Police Officer Jason Ellis. Sheckles is the nephew of Bardstown Mayor Bill Sheckles and is known to affiliate with the so-called Big Money Bardstown Gang or BMG. Kentucky State Police began looking into BMG shortly after Ellis was ambushed and shot to death.

"We don't believe they had anything to do with [Ellis' murder]," said Bardstown Police Chief Rick McCubbin said. "Of course nothing is 100 percent ruled out at this point, as you know, but we don't believe they had anything to do with it."

Investigators focused on BMG because prior to his death, Officer Ellis arrested three of its members.
