PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A tragic accident on Roosevelt Lake over the weekend has authorities reminding boaters to take safety precautions when heading out on the water.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD) said a man was killed on Saturday when he fell off a boat and was struck by the propeller.

AZGFD said it's the 67th boating accident this year, leading to forty-two injuries and six deaths, including an 8-year-old who fell off a pontoon boat at Lake Havasu.

AZGFD has the following recommendations:

  • Don't ride on or near the boat bow, or in front of the deck gate.
  • Wear a life jacket.
  • Don't operate a boat while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

AZGFD offers boating safety education free to the public. Click here for more information on boating safety from AZGFD. You can also call AZGFD at 623-236-7219.
