COOLIDGE, AZ (CBS5) -

A blowing dust advisory was allowed to expire at 8 p.m. for portions of Pinal and Maricopa counties, said CBS 5 chief meteorologist Chris Dunn.

The advisory had been in effect for several hours over the dinner hour Tuesday for several communities, like Florence, Gilbert, Casa Grande and east Mesa.

Motorists traveling on parts of Interstate 8 and Interstate 10 were warned to be on the lookout for reduced visibilities.

"It doesn't look like a major dust storm," Dunn said. But residents in the affected areas were told to prepare for winds possibly gusting up to 30 mph.

A local storm reporter recorded a wind gust of up to 32 mph as the dust storm passed over Gilbert and Pecos Road.

An excessive heat warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. Wednesday for hotter than normal temperatures.

In addition to the heat, high concentrations of ozone (air pollution) have prompted Maricopa County to issue the third high pollution advisory of the year for Wednesday.

Looking ahead to the weekend, Dunn said there are still signs of a developing tropical-type system off the coast of Baja California, which could make a significant contribution to both atmospheric moisture and the chance of a more widespread rain in Arizona.
