Victim identified from Hikes Point homicide; investigation continues

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A man has been identified as his homicide investigation continues.

Around 12:30 a.m., police responded to a shooting outside several town homes at 3200 Orchard Manor Circle near the intersection of Hikes Lane and Breckenridge Lane in Hikes Point.

LMPD said Rontrel Leak, 21, was shot once in the chest and rushed to University Hospital. According to the deputy coroner, he died from his injuries at 12:52 a.m.

The coroner also said Leak lived on Taylorsville Road, about two miles from the scene of the shooting.

Toby Houghen, a woman who lived in the apartments at the scene, told WAVE 3 News reporter Katherine Kington she stayed with the victim until an ambulance arrived. "I kissed him on the forehead and told him I loved him and everything was going to be okay, to calm down," she said.

Police have not confirmed whether Leak was shot inside or outside the apartment building.

Officers are trying to collect more information from other neighbors. They have not identified any persons of interest in the crime.
