Evacuations prompted after ammonia leak at Corydon plant

CORYDON, IN (WAVE) – Employees at a plant in Corydon were evacuated during an ammonia leak.

Harrison EMA Director Greg Reas said the leak occurred late Monday night at the Tyson plant in the 500 block of Valley Road. Emergency crews said the leak came from a small line and has been contained.

"There was a small ammonia leak in a refrigeration building adjacent to our Corydon plant at about 10 p.m. last night," said Worth Sparkman, a spokesman for Tyson Foods.

"Employees were evacuated and two team members were taken to Harrison County Hospital as a precaution," Sparkman added, saying both employees were treated and released from the hospital.

Plant management worked with local emergency services and employees were allowed back into the plant last night.

According to Sparkman, operations have resumed.
