LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A starting defensive player for UofL football who was injured in a hit and run accident was released from the hospital but is not yet clear to play in the opening game.

Rocco Gasparro, a spokesperson for UofL athletics, said Lorenzo Mauldin, a junior defensive end, was injured in an accident near the school's Yum! Center training facility Tuesday morning.

Metrosafe said Mauldin, who was driving the moped, was transported to Jewish Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Gasparro reported he was released Wednesday morning.

"All of the tests and evaluations continue to be positive," he said. "He has no serious orthopedic injuries and his game status will be evaluated over the next few days."

Mauldin is a native of Atlanta and a starting defensive end for UofL. He posted a career-high 22 tackles last season, including a team-high 4.5 sacks and 6.5 tackles for loss, according to Gasparro.

Metrosafe reported the accident happened at South Floyd Street and Hahn Street on the main campus just after 9 a.m. Tuesday and involved a moped and a car. They said the car thought to be involved is possibly a tan car or sedan.

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call UofL police at (502) 852-6111.
