LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Labor Day weekend will be unsettling for many of us, despite the kickoff of the college football season that will bring great joy to some. As has been the case the past several years, getting a job is front and center for thousands of people.
The most recent unemployment rate shows Kentucky and Indiana in a virtual tie for 10th worst in the nation with Kentucky's rate at 8.5 percent and Indiana's 8.4 percent. Nevada is at the bottom with 9.5 percent unemployment.
There are signs of hope in our region, and new bridge construction will help make some of that hope real. But more sustained job growth is a necessity.
As we enter into an election season post Labor Day - nearly a year ahead of mid-term elections, it isn't a bad time to ask your elected representatives what they will be doing to help create more jobs, both nationally and locally.
Laser focus on this issue above all others, will help some of the other issues plaguing us go away.
