In a press release sent to WAVE 3 News Laurie Goetz Kemp, one of Adkins attorneys, said, "Steve Adkins was saddened by the lawsuit filed at the end of his long career with Camp Taylor. Steve and his family have served Camp Taylor for over five decades and he remains dedicated to this community. Steve will continue to pursue a defense of all claims made against him and will let the judicial process take its course."

In a civil complaint firefighters George Givens and Michael Killebrew accused Adkins of sexual harassment, a hostile work environment, retaliation and inflecting emotional distress.

Adkins retirement became effective immediately.

The civil case against Adkins is pending.
