Despite the promise of rain, fans filed through in the gates of the Lindner Family Tennis Center to take in the beach-party atmosphere and world-class volleyball.
The AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour kicked off the Cincinnati Open main draw tournament under dry conditions on Saturday morning.
Saturday's competition began at 9 a.m. with the top-seeded teams of Olympic silver medalists Jen Kessy and April Ross, and Olympic Gold medalist Phil Dalhausser and his teammate Olympian Sean Rosenthal all earning wins in their opening matches.
Also playing in the day session is fan favorite and three-time Olympic gold medalist Kerri Walsh Jenings and Whitney Pavlik.
The night session, played under the bright lights of the feature court in the Tennis Center will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday's night session will feature top seeds of Kessy/Ross and Dalhausser/Rosenthal .
