LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - St. Barnabas Catholic Church celebrated its Diamond Jubilee this week. The church located on Hikes Lane has served the Hikes Point area for 60 years.

For a week, members of the church had picnics, reunions, prayers and dedications as they looked back at six decades of service to the area.

"We were truly the mother church," Director of Pastoral Care Penny McTighe  said. "The churches of St. Pius, St. Martha and Ascension have grown out of this parish."

McTighe said looking to the next 60 years, they want to focus on bringing new members in.

"It's no secret that it's a challenge to get young Catholics active, but what we hope, is to be not as much about maintenance of the building or of this particular community but to be outreach," She said.

The week long festivities ended with Mass Sunday morning.
