LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Approached during an argument on the Belle of Louisville, a man is now accused of assaulting officers and having to be removed from the historic steamboat while it was in the middle of a river cruise.

Kaven Smyzer, 49, of Louisville, faces charges of assaulting a peace officer, among other charges, after the alleged incident Saturday night.

Smyzer called a woman a derogatory term during an argument and pushed her, according to an arrest report. When a deputy sheriff and corrections officer asked him to calm down, the officers said Smyzer pushed them and then resisted arrest when they tried to handcuff him.

A stun gun was then used, according to the officers, and LMPD river patrol was contacted to remove him from the boat mid-cruise.

Smyzer was treated at University Hospital for alcohol intoxication, according to the report, and then taken to jail.

He is charged with alcohol intoxication, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, two counts of third-degree assault, one count of fourth-degree assault and third-degree terroristic threatening.
