RICHMOND, KY (WAVE) - A mother is facing criminal abuse charges after police said her toddler's teeth were damaged by her when he got stuck on a wire shelf.
According to Lexington affiliate WLEX (http://bit.ly/15yjdz3), police said Casandra Trickler was drying off her one-year-old after a shower when he began to cry because his teeth were caught on a towel rack on which he was chewing.
"Apparently, [he] had bitten into a wire shelf that was in the bathroom of another person's residence and when Miss Trickler tried to free the one-year-old from the shelf, she wound up pulling out at least four of his teeth," said Assistant Chief Bob Mott.
WLEX reported family members called it a freak accident, but police said Social Services has investigated Trickler for other incidents in the past.
"She's been involved before and we've investigated other incidences regarding that, so obviously this one was taken probably more than just an accident," Mott said.
Trickler is charged with criminal abuse of a child. The court ordered her to not go within 500 feet of her son.
