More than $160,000 in cash was seized after police busted an alleged gambling operation that spanned several locations across Nashville.

Metro police say Edna Davenport, 60, is suspected of operating a numbers racket, which was allegedly based at a business she owns, the Atomic Market on Buchanan Street.

Investigators said the illegal gambling typically involves wagering on a daily, widely publicized number, such as the closing number of the New York Stock Exchange.

Officers believe a home in the 2400 block of Osage Street was used as a count house for illegal gambling proceeds, and detectives executing a search warrant at Davenport's home on Mossdale Drive discovered more than $114,000 in cash.

Four guns were seized in the bust, along with two vehicles belonging to Davenport - a BMW and a Mini Cooper, police said.

Justin Dion Durrell, 28, is suspected of acting as security for Davenport, and he would allegedly follow her as she made her rounds.

A third suspect, 68-year-old Gwendolyn Brandon, is suspected of picking up numbers wagers at various locations, police said.

Davenport, who has previous gambling convictions, is charged with aggravated gambling promotion and possession of gambling records and was jailed on $12,500 bond.

Durrell is charge with gambling promotion and was jailed on $5,000 bond.

Brandon was issued a misdemeanor citation for allegedly participating in illegal gambling.
