SALEM, IN (WAVE) - A preliminary autopsy has determined that an 8-month-old baby boy pronounced dead at Kosair Children's Hospital early Sunday morning died of blunt force trauma to the head, according to Indiana State Police.

Investigators said Leelan Crain of Salem, Indiana was found unresponsive by his mother, Casey Crain, around 7 p.m. Saturday while the infant was taking a nap. Leelan's mother and her boyfriend took the child to St. Vincent's Hospital in Salem. He was transferred by air ambulance to Kosair Children's Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:41 a.m. Sunday.

Police said the official and final cause of death will be announced when autopsy results are complete, which typically takes up to six weeks. Indiana State Police would not release additional information.

According to the infant's obituary, funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Weathers Funeral Home. The burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of service.

Leelan's grandfather, David Crain, told Wave 3 News, "He was a great, kind baby. He was such a sweetheart, I couldn't ask for a better grandson and my daughter took good care of him."
