Portable hospital on display at ProMedica Toledo Hospital

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

From Hurricane Sandy, to the Boston Marathon bombing, disaster events can happen anywhere, whether natural or manmade. ProMedica staff members are learning first hand what it's like in the event of a disaster through using a mobile hospital.

The portable hospital can be deployed and functional within two hours. It includes a registration/waiting area, acute care section, general medical/surgical section and discharge section. Patient beds have dividers in-between them and the entire structure can be heated and cooled for any climate.

Disaster specialist Susan Childers says the time to prepare for a disaster event is before it happens.

"That's why we are all working together, because we want to try and get people more prepared, and certainly, get the knowledge out there to the public that there is a lot of things going on behind the scenes that maybe they didn't know about," explained Childers.

The ProMedica Toledo Hospital is displaying its portable hospital for the public Thursday and Friday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. People interested in a tour can use the parking garages located on the hospital campus off North Cove Boulevard. Tours are free and will be directed by PTH personnel and staff.
