Park(ing) Week takes over Jefferson Street

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – The lane closest to Metro Hall has been transformed into a series of mini parks and gathering areas for Louisville Park(ing) Week.

Local designers and organizations spent the weekend building the site. It's a temporary park, modern TARC bus stop, gathering area, a broadcast booth and temporary outdoor Mayor's office.

Park(ing) Week is an extension of Park(ing) Day which nationwide has become a yearly event of turning a parking space into a green space.

"Here, for the entire week, people can come out and look at the park," said Chris Poynter, a spokesperson for Mayor Greg Fischer.

There will be vendors, farmers markets and Flea off Market during the week.

Park(ing) Day is part of the global effort to reclaim public spaces and streets.

Poynter said the temporary park will last until Friday.
