Second victim confirmed dead after Troy Twp. house fire - News, Weather & Sports

2 dead, others injured after early morning home explosion

TROY TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Police say a second person has been confirmed dead in a house explosion in Troy Township.

Police say a mother and father, their two sons and the significant other of one of the sons lived in the home. One of the people killed in the fire was the mother. The second victim, a male, has not been identified.

Flames broke out just after 5 a.m. in the 23000 block of Stony Ridge Road near Strail Road in Troy Township. It's unclear right now what caused the home to explode. The Ohio State Fire Marshal's Office has no indication of criminal activity involved in the explosion. BCI agents brought in mapping equipment to develop a diagram of the scene, according Michael Duchene, a spokesman for the fire marshal in Columbus.

Wood County Sheriff Marc Wasylyshyn says investigators are focusing on the propane gas line where it entered the house. He also agrees that no criminal activity has been indicated.

"Unfortunately we have a lot of younger firefighters with not a lot of time on. We try to prepare them for what we think we're going to find," said Troy Township Fire Chief Randy Woodruff.

Police say all of the victims are adults. Two of the victims were taken to the hospital by Life Flight, and two others by an ambulance. Police say one of the victims died in an ambulance will en route to the hospital.

The explosion spread debris throughout the area. Police tape blocks off an area more than half a mile wide around what used to be the home.

Neighbors say the explosion was so loud some thought a plane had crashed in the area.

"The thought of something this traumatic happening this close to our house, and people being involved, it's scary," said neighbor Joni Harrison.
