LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Reading unlocks opportunities, unleashes possibilities and uplifts our lives. Reading improvement adds confidence for students and enhances their school experience.
The Every 1 Reads program has made a difference in so many lives the past 10 years.
The program with Jefferson County Public Schools matches mentors and students who need help with reading. The goal is to get everyone to read at grade level. More than 10,000 volunteers have been involved with it through the years.
Community leaders are igniting the program again and are looking for 1,500 new volunteers to join by the end of this month. You get trained and are then asked to volunteer for a half hour each week.
You select when you engage with students at times that fit your schedule, their schedule and the school schedule. A web-based Every 1 reads volunteer recruitment portal gets you started.
We salute all who have volunteered with this program the past 10 years and made a difference in so many lives.
We urge all who can to be part of the new group of volunteers and encourage those who used to volunteer to consider rejoining the effort!
