LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Hours before Oxmoor Mall opened to the public on Friday, more than 100 people sat outside in chairs and on the ground waiting to get their hands on the new iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C.

"I've been here since three yesterday afternoon," said Karen Duthie, the first person in line outside Oxmoor Mall. "I want a gold one, and I know they're hard to get."

Duthie was one of many customers hoping to buy the new iPhone 5S that comes with a black, silver, or gold metal finish. Around 6 a.m. Oxmoor Mall Apple employees helped Duthie and other hopefuls get one step closer to making their purchases by granting them mall access. Once inside, shoppers waited in a single-file line outside the Apple store as Apple employees handed out vouchers for the new iPhone 5S.

The fifth generation iPhone 5S features the line's fastest processor yet and a fingerprint scanner that does away with the need for a four-digit passcode.

"This one feature is just so awesome," said Duthie as she unlocked her brand new iPhone 5S with her thumbprint. "I'm the only one that can do that!"

While Duthie was successful in purchasing her gold iPhone 5S, many other customers were not.

"After about 15 people, they said there were no golds left," said iPhone 5 buyer Nick Spencer.

"I wanted gold, too," said iPhone 5 buyer Marissa Wright. "But it's okay. Anything's better than this [iPhone 4S]."

Shoppers also bought the new iPhone 5C, Apple's wallet-friendly model aimed at prepaid customer and developing markets. Unlike the iPhone 5S, the iPhone 5C has a plastic shell and comes in blue, green, pink, white, and yellow. With a two-year contract, pricing on the iPhone 5C is $99 for a 16GB model and $199 for a 32GB model.

The iPhone 5S will cost shoppers more. With a two-year contract, pricing on the iPhone 5S is $199 for a 16GB model, $299 for a 32GB model and $399 for a 64GB model.

"It was worth it because I got the one I wanted," said Duthie. "I probably won't upgrade for a while because I like the color and everything."

It's that love for the iPhone that fans like Duthie said make the hours of waiting in Friday's iPhone frenzy worth it.
