Suspected knife attacker: 'I'm killing you to save the world'

PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A man accused of stabbing a shopper at random inside a Phoenix Walgreens store in September told the victim, "I'm killing you to save the world," according to a newly released police report.

Christopher Gale was arrested on suspicion of sneaking up from behind and stabbing the woman in the back of the neck inside the store at 3402 N. Central Ave. on Sept. 20 at about 6:30 p.m.

The police report that CBS 5 News obtained on Tuesday identified the victim, who survived the attack, as 58-year-old Linda Mouery.

Police said Gale bought the weapon, an eight-inch chef's knife for 98 cents, about 1 1/2 hours earlier at a Walmart store for the purpose of "stabbing and killing someone."

After stabbing the victim, Gale went through the store with the knife raised over his head looking for another victim, the court document stated.

An armed off-duty federal agent who happened to be in the store at the time stopped the suspect.

During a police interview, Gale said he knew stabbing the victim was wrong but felt no remorse and would not apologize.

Gale provided officers with the receipt for the purchase of the knife, court paperwork stated.

Authorities said Gale is a drug user and his drug of choice is methamphetamine.

He has failed to appear on a minor charge of shoplifting.

"Gale has indicated his future includes torturing other humans and he has no regard for human life," according to the court document.
