Traffic signal leads to several crashes at Rossford intersection

Posted: Updated:
ROSSFORD, OHIO (TOLEDO NEWS NOW) -

After more than a dozen serious accidents at State Route 795 and Crossroads Parkway in Rossford, the city is taking steps to make the intersection safer.

Rossford Police Chief Glenn Goss says that intersection is dangerous. Now the city is working with ODOT to change that.

The traffic lights at the intersection only show a left-hand turn arrow for a few moments. Once the signal disappears, some drivers think they still have the right-of-way. This has been the cause of several accidents and near-misses.

"By changing the timing of the left-hand turns and preventing oncoming traffic from coming at that same time, I think we'll have a much safer intersection," Goss said.

City officials say they will have a plan in action by October, and hope a longer signal will lead to fewer crashes.
