HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) -
A University of Cincinnati football player killed in a car crash was laid to rest Wednesday morning at the Queen of Peace Church in Hamilton.
Friends and family gathered to goodbye to Ben Flick, also a graduate of Hamilton High School.
Flick died in a car crash late Saturday night in Hanover Township. Investigators say the vehicle he was riding in went off the road for an unknown reason. He died at the scene.
The driver, Sean VanDyne, 18, was a Miami University student and fellow Hamilton grad who also died Monday night from his injuries.
Two other passengers, Mark Barr and Javon Harrison, both UC football players, were injured. Harrison has since been released from the hospital.
During Flick's visitation at Hamilton High School Tuesday evening, the line of people stretched out the door and wrapped around the gymnasium with people saying goodbye to a teammate, family member and friend with an infectious personality.
"He always had a smile on his face. Just a very nice gentleman," said Joni Copas, director of communications for the Hamilton City School District.
"He was the goofiest kid that went to Hamilton High School," said Regina Gleason, one of Flick's high school classmates.
Five years ago, Flick had a conversation with his eighth grade football coach about playing football in college. His coach told him he knew he had the ability to do it.
"He came back as a senior in high school and said, 'Hey, do you remember that conversation?' I said, 'Absolutely I do." He said, 'Thank you. You were the first guy who pulled me off and told me that,'" said his coach Chris Thompson.
Flick was a redshirt freshman on the University of Cincinnati football team living his dream. Wearing red and black and walking in near silence, his teammates came to say goodbye to their brother, #77.
"He had an impact on so many people. He would give you the shirt off his back," Gleason told FOX19.
Flick's life may have been cut short at just 19-years-old, but by the people in this community, he'll never be forgotten.
"I'm extremely proud of the young man he was. I'm extremely proud of the Flick family. Extremely sad of the tragedy," added Thompson.
"He will be missed. He will be missed," said Gleason.
Flick and his UC teammates in the crash attended the Bearcats game against Miami University prior to the crash. They didn't travel or dress with the team due to redshirting.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation by authorities.
As for Sean VanDyne, he leaves behind a wife he married just last month.
Head Football Coach Tommy Tuberville will make his first public remarks at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday at the University of Cincinnati.
