LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A couple used a pizza delivery sign on their car as a cover to steal an estimated $15,000 worth of items from storage units at apartment complexes, according to St. Matthews police.

Police said on August 31 they received a call stating a man and woman were removing chainsaws from the storage unit in an apartment building then got into a vehicle and left.

After calling police one of the residents followed the car to the Red Roof Inn, located at 9330 Blairwood Road.

Officers obtained a warrant to search Marco Antonio Arroyo and Michelle Morris' hotel room and said the room was so crowded the couple had cleared paths to walk around.

Police seized all of the items in the room.

St. Matthews Police Department Sgt. Charles Portman said, "Most of these folks that are victims don't know they're victims yet because they never visit those storage areas in their basement. If you live in an apartment complex in St. Matthews, anywhere in Jefferson County, just go look and see if your items are there."

Arroyo and Morris were taken into custody. Morris is charged with burglary, receiving stolen property under $10,000, possession of burglary tools and trafficking in drugs. Arroyo is charged with burglary, receiving stolen property under $10,000, obscuring the identity of a machine, trafficking in drugs and possession of burglary tools.

Both are being held on a $10,000 full cash bond and are scheduled to appear in court on October 9.

St. Matthews investigators said if you are missing something, contact the police department that covers the area where you live, file a police report and have those detectives get in touch with St. Matthews police.
