Major gift will allow UofL football complex to expand
The Howard Schnellenberger Football Complex
Coach Charlie Strong
LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Plans to expand are in the works for a section of Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. The University of Louisville's football training complex will double in size.
The announcement was made September 26 during a ribbon cutting ceremony for a new Planet Fitness location on South Hurstbourne Parkway. Cardinal football coach Charlie Strong was presented with a $3 million check by the fitness center's owners.
The money will go to expand the Howard Schnellenberger Football Complex. It's something Strong hopes will attract more recruits.
"It's about facilities," said Strong "You hate to say that, but as a recruit that's what they look at."
"The money is going to go towards kicking off the capital campaign to expand the complex," said Rick Kueber, Planet Fitness Louisville CEO.
Kueber said the weight room and physical therapy room in the complex will be expanded. A lounge will also be created for the players.
A timeline for the $7.5 million project has not yet been set.
