Driver killed in Snyder Freeway accident identified

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – The name of the man killed Friday morning when his tractor-trailer rig went off the interstate has been released.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office said Anthony C. Sands, 29, of Terre Haute, IN, was behind the wheel of a semi that ran off the Gene Snyder Freeway (Interstate 265) between Taylorsville Road and Billtown Road.

According to police, witnesses to the crash said the truck and flatbed trailer carrying lumber were heading northbound on the Snyder and bouncing along the guardrail. When the guardrail ran out, the rig left the road. It landed on Old Heady Road and came to rest in a field. No other vehicles were involved in the crash which around 8:15 a.m.

Deputy coroner Sam Weakley said the cause of Sands' death is unclear, but it appears the accident itself did not kill him. A medical condition is being looked at as the cause.
