LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – The live-in girlfriend of a man was arrested for domestic violence after the victim said she came home intoxicated and agitated.

On Sunday night just after 10:30 p.m. at an apartment on Dixie Highway near the Algonquin Parkway, police responded to a stabbing. When they arrived they found the man sitting out front of the apartment with a stab wound through his right calf. Officers also observed he had a small cut to his ear and scratches on his neck.

During their investigation police decided the victim's girlfriend, who lived with him for several years, came home drunk and angry. According to an arrest report, she began throwing things around the apartment when the victim went to lie down in bed.

Officers said his girlfriend, Karen Richardson, 47, followed him and stabbed him with a pair of scissors completely through his calf. According to police she then grabbed him by the throat before fleeing the apartment.

Police found her barricaded in another apartment which they said she forced her way into in order to hide from them.

Richardson was arrested and charged with second degree assault and second degree burglary. The arrest report did not indicate what she was upset about at the time of the incident.
