Man breaks into home, imprisons and assaults woman

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A Louisville man is facing multiple charges after he is accused of breaking into a home and holding a woman against her will.

According to an arrest report, police were called to the 1200 block of Weller Avenue around 2 a.m. September 30 on an unknown trouble run. When officers arrived, they heard a woman calling for the victim to let her inside.

Once inside, officers said the victim came running into the front room of the house saying, "help he's in there." In a room down the hallway, police found Daniel D. Smith, 31, sitting against the wall. During a pat down, police found a hammer in the pocket of his hoodie.

The woman told police Smith came into the house through a back door armed with the hammer. She stated he was standing over her with the hammer when she awakened.

After the woman ran into the living room, the police report says she found her wallet on the couch with money missing. The woman told Smith to leave, but he grabbed her, drug her into a bathroom, locking the door behind them and threatened to kill her if she yelled out. She told officers when that Smith took her to the bedroom when he heard them at the door.

Police said Smith scuffled with them as they tried to place him under arrest. Smith fell into a front window of the hose and once placed in the police car kicked out a back window,

Smith is charged with burglary, unlawful imprisonment, wanton endangerment, violation of a Kentucky EPO, assault – domestic violence, resisting arrest, criminal mischief, and disorderly conduct. He is being held at Louisville Metro Corrections pending arraignment on October 1.
