Pre-registration for Low-Income Energy Assistance Program begins in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Pre-registration for the Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) begins October 1 for qualifying Louisville residents who are also over the age of 60 OR disabled receiving social security, SSI, pension or Black Lung benefits.

LIHEAP, sponsored by the Louisville Metro Community Action Partnership (CAP), is a federally funded program which helps income-eligible citizens pay utility bills. Applicants must provide required documentation including a photo ID, proof of household income, a social security card and a recent heating bill.

Pre-registration will take place at more than 20 community locations until October 25. For a list of those locations and what to bring, click here.

Residents who don't meet the requirements for pre-registration may still apply for LIHEAP benefits. All three CAP offices will begin taking appointments on November 4. For a list of CAP offices and their hours, click here.

The Subsidy component of LIHEAP for all those eligible will begin paying funds on November 4, 2013.
