Shutdown affecting Kentuckians who receive unemployment benefits

FRANKFORT, KY (WAVE) - The temporary shutdown of the federal government is impacting Kentuckians who receive unemployment benefits.

According to Governor Steve Beshear's office, unemployment insurance customers in the Commonwealth will continue to be paid during the government shutdown, but those needing to file a claim or request a check should use the online and phone services available through the Kentucky Career Center since state administrative resources have been affected. This means there is limited support available at local career centers for UI customers.

In order to avoid longer wait times for assistance in local Kentucky Career Centers, unemployment insurance customers are encouraged to go online at or call 502-875-0442 Monday through Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. to file an initial claim or reopen a claim. To request a biweekly check by phone, call 877-369-5984.
