HAZARD, KY (WAVE) – A man was beaten over the head with a concrete block and left for dead in a river, according to police.

The Hazard Police Department charged two people, including the victim's wife, in the attack. It happened Monday afternoon at the Kentucky River in Perry County, Kentucky.

Police said the victim, Jeff Karr, was hit over the head with a concrete block by Larry Yocum. They said Yocum then tried to sink Karr into the river with the block but when it didn't work Yocum tossed his body into the river and left him there.

Officers were led to Karr after his wife, Teresa Karr, called the cops later in the day on Monday wanting them to remove a man from her home. Police said that man told them he witnessed a murder at the river. When it was investigated, they found Karr with what they called life threatening injuries and rushed him to UK hospital.

"When we found him, he had severe lacerations on his arms, what appeared to be a broken nose and a lot of head trauma. There was what appeared to be skull fragments showing on the back of his head near an open wound," said Lt. Paul Campbell of the Hazard Police Department.

Officials confirm Karr has been released from the Hospital.

His wife, Teresa, is charged with tampering with evidence after police said she helped to clean Yocum's clothes after the attack.

Yocum was charged with attempted murder and is being held in the Kentucky River Regional Jail.
