CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A middle school football team played with the number 75 in their hearts and not on the field after losing a member of their team.

Cameron Smith, a defensive lineman for the Campbellsville Middle School Eagles, was just 13 years old when he died suddenly in his home on September 27.

His team dedicated a game to his honor with his number, 75, painted at the 50 yard line and people in the stands wearing shirts to remember the teen.

"That's what Eagles do. Eagles rise to the occasion and Eagles soar and we will continue to soar and do it together. We will do it as Cameron's legacy lives on in our school," said Principal Elisha Rhodes.

A cause of death has not been released. The Marion County Coroner's Office confirmed they did an autopsy on the 13 year old but the results were not definitive. The office said they do not expect foul play and more tests will be done to determine the cause.

If you would like to help with funeral costs, a memorial fund has been set up in Smith's name. Donations can be sent to Campbellsville Middle School.

His visitation is Wednesday night and his funeral will be Thursday. Both services will be held at the school.
