Video game controller theft allegedly becomes robbery

ST. MATTHEWS, KY (WAVE) - Theft of a video game controller turned into an alleged robbery when a store security staff member was pushed to the ground.

Gareth Jones, 22, of Louisville, tried to take a wireless controller and adapter for a Sony PlayStation 3, according to a police report. It was Tuesday evening at the Target store on Westport Road.

When Jones tried to leave the store, police said, a female security employee of the store tried to talk to him.

The employee told police that Jones pushed through her and she hit the ground, visibly injuring her left wrist and knee.

The value of the controller and adapter is valued at $54.99 each.

Jones is charged with theft by unlawful taking / shoplifting under $500 and second-degree robbery.
