LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Ladies, listen up. A new study conducted by the American Cancer Society says simply going for a walk could lower your risk for breast cancer.
70-thousand women were studied over a 17 year period. During that time, researchers found that those who vigorously exercised for an hour a day had a 25% reduced risk for breast cancer.
"You don't have to go out and be a marathon runner, simply go out for a leisurely walk everyday and you're doing something to actually lower your breast cancer risk," said Alpa Patel, PhD, Senior Epidemiologist at the American Cancer Society.
Researchers accounted for factors that influence a woman's breast cancer risk like body weight, hormone use and family history. Even with all those, the walking benefit still existed.
