LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The 76th meeting of one of the biggest rivalries in the state kicks off tonight.
The annual Trinity vs. St. X football game is just hours away, but the two teams have been preparing for the matchup all week. The Shamrocks have won the last 6 meetings between the two teams. For the first time ever, they lead the overall series 37 to 36 with only two ties on record between the two.
"The majority of these kids growing up in this community, they've heard about the St X-Trinity football game since they started playing football day one," St. X head coach Will Wolford said. "Everyone comes to this game, all the schools come to this game, it's an awesome experience."
Trinity head coach Bob Beatty said, "This week is about us and playing fast and learning about those mistakes in the first third of the season, not to make those mistakes again."
Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. at Papa John's Stadium.
