SHEPHERDSVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A woman killed in an accident involving a utility trunk and a car on Kentucky 44 Monday morning has been identified, according to the Shepherdsville Police Department.
Investigators said at 10:55 a.m. Betty Spriggs, 78, was traveling westbound on KY 44 in a white sedan when she lost control, crossed into oncoming traffic and was hit by a Salt River RECC utility truck.
Both vehicles left the roadway and the utility truck landed partially on top of Spriggs' car. The utility truck driver was helped to safety by neighbors, who also tried to assist Spriggs.
Beverly Dillander who lives nearby said, "It made me feel awful, because I couldn't help him."
Josh Burgess said he come across the street when he heard about the commotion, "Somebody else came in here, grabbed a broom and pushed the airbag away so she could breathe and then the nurse checked for a pulse then after that she just kind of took her last two breaths and passed away."
Shepherdsville police said Spriggs was pronounced dead at the scene. The utility truck driver was taken to an area hospital. Their injuries have not been released.
