Luke civilian workers to be paid during government shutdown

GLENDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

Civilian employees at Luke Air Force Base can expect to get paychecks on time on Friday, despite the partial federal government shutdown.

The paychecks are in keeping with the Pay Our Military Act, which was signed into law by President Barack Obama on Sept. 30.

Civilians who were excepted from the furlough will be paid for all days worked in the Sept. 22 to Oct. 5 pay period. Those who were furloughed will be paid for days worked between Sept. 22 and Sept. 30, according to a Luke Air Force Base news release.

Furloughed employees will not be paid at this time for the days during the pay period they were furloughed, from Oct. 1 to Oct. 5.

They may eventually be paid for those days per the Federal Employee Retroactive Pay Fairness Act, legislation that was passed by the House over the weekend and is currently being considered by the Senate.
