LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - This time last week, a record amount of rainfall was on its way to Louisville.

With the torrential rain brought many flooded homes and cars. Louisville residents have been diligently working to clean up the mess and return their lives back to normal. The WAVE 3 Clean Team was out in full force Saturday helping people haul away ruined items and clean up.

Dawne Gee and her sons, Alex and Eric, led the way early Saturday morning. They hauled all the waterlogged furniture and other items for the same flood victims she met last weekend in the Buechel area.

Hometown Hauling not only offered residents their truck for free, but the company also paid for the gas and the time of their employees to help. People from Peabody and Elba Streets to West Indian Trail were thankful for the helping hand.

"It's a blessing that they care enough to come out and give a hand," said Ed Henry.

"It's overwhelming to see these young kids come out and to help out this morning and say what can we do and yet it just instills in us what a community is all about," added Wanda Mitchell-Smith. "You know, it's wonderful because we would not be able to do it alone by ourselves."
