Woman accused of pumping without paying; hit gas pump, pole on way out of station

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A Louisville woman was arrested for allegedly pumping without paying and then hitting a gas pump as she drove away.

Louisville Metro Police said Jennifer Burkhart, 43, was at a Taylorsville Road Thornton's where she pumped $64.31 worth of gas into her Ford Explorer.

Apparently Burkhart recklessly drove off, hitting a gas pump and a pole. The estimated damage is between $1,000 to $15,000 to the gas pumped and underground piping.

Burkhart was caught by an off duty officer a few blocks away because her vehicle was disabled in the road due to damage. She could not provide proof of insurance once approached by police.

Burkhart is being charged with leaving the scene of an accident, failure to notify an address change to the D0epartment of Transportation, unlawful taking of gasoline and criminal mischief.
