The Arizona Supreme Court's five justices have elected their next chief justice.
An administrative order released by the court says current Chief Justice Rebecca White Berch will step down as chief justice at midnight June 30 when her current term ends.
She'll be replaced by Scott Bales, the current vice chief justice.
The justices also elected Justice John Pelander to replace Bales as vice chief justice.
Bales and Pelander were elected to five-year terms.
Bales was appointed to the court in 2005 by then-Gov. Janet Napolitano. He formerly worked as a lawyer in private practice, as a federal prosecutor and as state solicitor general.
Pelander is a former state Court of Appeals judge who was appointed to the Supreme Court by Gov. Jan Brewer.
