Felon arrested for allegedly breaking into a man's home; shooting him

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A convicted felon was arrested for allegedly breaking into a home and shooting the homeowner in the chest.

According to Detective James Peabody, Lamont Smith, 31, and another person forced their way into a home on September 20. Smith reportedly shot the victim one time in the chest, demanded money and took a backpack with the victim's son's school books in it.

When LMPD responded to the scene, they said they discovered the victim shot in the abdomen. He was transported to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment.

The victim identified Smith from a photo pack.

Smith is being charged with robbery, assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
