Flagstaff wildlife feeding ban won't go to voters

Flagstaff voters won't be weighing in on an ordinance that bans the feeding of wildlife other than birds and squirrels.

The Arizona Daily Sun reports that a petition drive to send the ordinance to the ballot failed to get enough signatures.

Joe Farnsworth and Joe Ray turned in 575 signatures by Thursday's deadline but needed more than 1,000.

Ray says the city is inserting itself into in a private dispute between neighbors and addressing a problem that doesn't exist. The men say they'll pursue other options but declined to elaborate.

The City Council passed the ordinance last month.

A first offense triggers a warning. Subsequent violations could come with fines and jail time.
