SCOTT COUNTY, IN (WAVE) - A fatal crash occurred Sunday on I-65 near the 25 mile marker in Scott County, Indiana between Henryville and Scottsburg.

According to Indiana State Police (ISP), around 5 p.m. on October 20, a Hyundai Sante Fe traveling southbound on I-65 went into the median and crossed through cable barriers into the northbound lanes of the interstate. When this happened, the driver, Natalie Bomar, 19, hit a Ford F-150 truck pulling a trailer.

The truck and trailer then burst into flames on the side of the road, according to officers. Good Samaritans were able to pull a 9-year-old boy and his grandmother, both from Greenwood, IN, from the truck. However, they were unable to rescue the driver, Dennis Godsave, 62, also from Greenwood. Police confirmed he died in the fire.

Bomar and Sandra Godsave, the grandmother, were transported to University Hospital in Louisville and the 9-year-old was transported to Kosair Children's Hospital. According to ISP, all three have serious injuries.

Officers said they are not sure what caused Bomar to swerve into the median. Indiana State Police Crash Reconstructionists have assumed the lead role in the investigation into the accident's cause.
