FRANKFORT, KY (WAVE) - The topic of a local option sales tax was center stage in Frankfort Thursday as Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer testified in front of state lawmakers.
Fischer has been lobbying the General Assembly and others to support the idea for the past year.
A local option would allow voters to approve a temporary 1 percent sales tax increase that would go toward specific projects.
Thursday Fischer explained how each county would decide how the sales tax would be allocated. A bill to put a local option sales tax on the ballot is expected to be introduced in the 2014 General Assembly.
