According to Borel's agent, Jerry Hissam, it will be a few weeks before Borel is back in the saddle.
LEXINGTON, KY (WAVE) - Three-time Derby winning jockey Calvin Borel is home after breaking his leg at Keeneland on Wednesday.
According to Borel's agent, Jerry Hissam, it will be a few weeks before Borel is back in the saddle. He was riding Sonic Dancer in Keeneland's sixth race when the horse broke his leg, stumbled and went down. Borel was then clipped by two or three other horses during the fall.
"The love of the game, the love of the horse, the excitement, the challenge," said Hissam. "When you win a $5,000 race, it's just as important as winning the Kentucky Derby."
Due to the injury, Borel will miss most of the upcoming meets at Churchill Downs. He is hoping to compete in the last four to five races here in Louisville.
