LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - One of Louisville's most iconic and historic buildings has been designated a historic landmark. 

The US Marine Hospital on Northwestern Parkway in Portland has been standing for 161 years! City leaders and neighbors gathered Sunday to celebrate the hospital's designation as a national historic landmark. 

Built in 1852, it's one of eight hospitals built by the federal government before the Civil War that's still standing. The hospital later treated wounded soldiers from the Civil War, Spanish American War and WWI.
