LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – The president of a Louisville business is accused of taking money from several people for a trip to music festival that never materialized.

Criminal complaints issued against Shawntae Gibbs, 38, of Louisville, say he, as the president of Royal Family Entertainment, took $550 from each of the people for a trip to the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans. The money was the bus trip that was to leave on July 5 and a three day hotel stay.

When the people who had booked the trip with Gibbs called him on July 5, Gibbs said the trip had been canceled and their money would be refunded. Each of the four criminal complaint summons issued October 7 say Gibbs has yet to make a full refund.

The summons also said Gibbs never booked the trip with the bus line or the hotel and kept the money for himself.

During a court appearance on similar charges October 15, Gibbs was served with the four latest complaints. He will be back in court on the charges December 3.
